NEET Medical Entrance Test:
According to the latest reports, from 2021 onwards, NEET medical entry test will take place twice a year. According to a statement issued by a leading media agency, NTA Director Vineet Joshi indicated that the Medical Entrance Exam could be administered twice a year on similar lines as the JEE Main Engineering Entrance Exam. Joshi said that the planning for this project is still in its infancy and specifics are being sorted out by the NTA and will be presented to the authorities in the near future.
Proposal Based on Students ‘ Demand
He further expressed that the decision or proposal to conduct NTA NEET Exam was taken twice in an academic year following applications from medical aspirants, students and teachers across the state. He said a project draft is being drafted and will be submitted to the Ministry of Health after reviewing these applications and analyzing them in depth.
No Changes to Exam Dates of NEET 2020 Exam
Further clarifying the issue, NTA Director also said there would be no adjustment to the NEET 2020 exam scheduled to take place this year as the plan to hold the medical entrance exam is still in its planning phase. He said that this year’s test times, variations and other elements of the medical entrance examination would remain unchanged.
Why do NEET tests take place twice a year?
The Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan recently announced that NEET will be the single point entry exam for MBBS and BDS courses in India. This means that the MBBS and BDS curriculum entrance exam will be discontinued from next year onwards by AIIMS and JIPMER. NEET test will take place more than once a year to satisfy the increased number of aspirants and encourage admission to the increased number of MBBS seats.
Under the current system, where NEET only takes place once a year, skipping a test and failing in the first will result in students ending up losing a whole year. Until re-attempting NEET test, they would have to wait a full year. This problem will be solved for the students with the NEET test being held twice a year. Students will have less pressure on them to clear the clinical entrance test with two opportunities open, and they will be able to try the examination more easily.
